Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health

The Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health at the University of Oregon Portland establishes a new national model for behavioral health care for children and families by creating the nation’s first undergraduate program in child behavioral health. This program will provide undergraduate students with applied training in the delivery of interventions to promote well-being and prevent mental health problems from developing and worsening in children and adolescents. Graduates of the program will leave with practical skills that will allow them to directly enter the behavioral health workforce to support the well-being of youth in schools, the health care system, and other community settings. The Ballmer Institute serves children, adolescents, and families and prioritizes the needs of youth who have been persistently and/or historically underserved. This groundbreaking initiative was made possible by an extraordinary gift from Connie and Steve Ballmer, co-founders of Ballmer Group Philanthropy.
